Radhakishan Damani was born in Bikaner and grew up in Mumbai. After a year of college, Radhakishan Damani dropped out and started a business selling ball bearings. After his father died at the age of 32, he abandoned his business and joined his brother Gopikishan Damani in the stockbroking business. BrightStar Investments was started by Radhakishan Damani in 1989, and he became a SEBI-registered stockbroker in 1992. Radhakishan Damani started his start in the stock market by short-selling equities. Radhakishan Damani was the single largest investor in the HDFC bank after it went public in 1995. DMart is owned and operated by Avenue Supermarts Ltd. (ASL), a company founded by Mr. Radhakishan Damani.
